Louisiana Art and Science Museum

Location: Baton Rouge, LA

Our assignment included master planning, architecture and interactive exhibit design services, as well as exhibition design for a large collection of sculptures by Czech modernist Ivan Mestrovich in the new lobby events space. Our subject is a fascinating hybrid of fine arts and science education programming, a train depot in its first storied life, and now a museum on the banks of the Mississippi in downtown Baton Rouge, across the street from the iconic Louisiana state capital. Striking a balance between historic sensitivity and progressive design, we executed the first phase of the master plan maximizing exhibition, education and visitor amenity spaces on a very tight site. The result was 20,000 square feet of new additions including a digital dome theater, a new lobby and gift shop, sculpture gallery, interactive exhibit gallery and classroom spaces.
